Common Causes Of Headaches

What are the common causes of headaches?  If you suffer from recurrent headaches, you need to figure out what is causing the headaches so that you can reduce or eliminate them. The majority of headaches are the common headache variety with common causes. And headaches with common causes have common cures. However, there are cases when a headache is not just an ordinary concern. Most people will simply take pain killers to solve their headache problems. This is a good thing because relief is available , but having a chronic headache means another thing. If you are having headaches every day, it is time to see a doctor. On the other hand, a headache that comes back could mean a health condition.

Common causes of headaches and migraines vary  but most ailments of these affect the nervous system. It causes recurrent headaches and sometimes other neurological symptoms, such as numbness, tingling or weakness on one side of the body. The first sign of a migraine may be an “aura,” or a premonition that an attack is imminent. There may be visual disturbance, such as bright spots or zigzag lines before both eyes.


Tension headaches are more common among women than men. These headaches are sometimes called stress headaches, muscle contraction headaches, daily headaches, or chronic non-progressive headaches. Tension headaches usually begin gradually and often occur in the middle of the day. A tension headache may occur on an episodic basis (less than 15 days per month) or on a chronic basis (daily or more than 15 days per month).

Headaches impact people differently. Modern medical studies have shown that headaches vary in intensity and frequency in a person, depending on their individual make-up, gender, age and even heredity. Because of the variety in causes, intensity and frequency, the causes and/or cures can be extremely varied as well. A healthy diet and regular exercise can contribute to the increase of circulation, and decrease stress. Shoulder and neck muscles are kept flexible through exercise, blood flows into these areas and tension is relived. Eat regular meals throughout the day to keep healthy levels of blood sugar and drink eight glasses of water per day to keep hydrated.

While most causes of headaches are simplistic in nature, there are many causes that could indicate a serious medical issue. Naturally, should a serious issue be the underlying cause of a headache, medical care will be necessary. This will help in determining the underlying cause and treating not only the headache, but the reason that the headache has developed. Headaches have the potential to eliminate the quality of life that you enjoy and become disabling.
