Why We Get Frequent Migraine Headaches

There are many types of headaches that are very painful; tension, sinus and migraines are among the most painful. A migraine will cause a pounding sensation that can make a person feel nauseous and even lead to vomiting. The symptoms will not be the same for everyone but these are common ones associated with the migraine headache:
* Fatigue
* Dizziness
* Fever (rare)
* Sensitivity to odors, noise and light
* Loss of appetite
* Paleness
* Blurred vision
* Bright flashing dots or lights, wavy or jagged lines or blind spots

Who is Susceptible to Getting Migraines?
Approximately 28 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches according to the National Headache Foundation. They are much more common with women and of the women who are plagued by them; they typically suffer four or more attacks a month. Their headaches can last from four hours to three days and sometimes longer.

Why do People Get Migraines?
It is not known exactly why people get migraine headaches. They have been related to changes in the body and sometime the face also in the brain and those  are also known to be genetic. There are some common triggers to set off a migraine such as; bright lights, weather changes, fatigue and others. Environmental factors can play a role in triggering the headaches, and when hormonal changes in women fluctuate they can also trigger them. What Medications Are Available For Migraines?
There is no cure known for migraine headaches, but doctors can help you to manage the pain and severity of them. Medications have been designed to treat migraines and there are some drugs that if taken during an attack can stop symptoms that have begun.
Pain relievers such as aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen may lessen the pain of mild migraines but cannot be taken for too long a time as they may cause gastrointestinal bleeding. A prescription pain reliever, indomethacin can help ward off migraines and are available in suppository form. This pain reliever may also be helpful with nausea.

Triptans have been used to treat migraines as they promote constriction of blood vessels and block pain pathways in the brain. They are effective in relieving the pain of migraines and other symptoms that occur with them. Ergotamine and caffeine combinations are less effective but have shown to be useful if the pain lasts more than 48 hours. There are a few more alternatives available that can be discussed with your physician for possible migraine therapy.
Another possibility to discuss is preventative therapy. If you suffer four or more attacks in a month, or if the attacks last 12 hours or more and pain relief medicines are not working, you are a candidate for therapy. This will include stronger medications that only a physician can prescribe as there may be side effects that will need to be carefully monitored.

Stress migraine and regular migraines  can lead to other health complications and have a terribly draining effect on your body. That is why it is crucial to learn how to deal with them effectively.
